Kier bags £100m Staffordshire NHS job

 

According to the contract, Kier will provide a range of services to renovate two hospitals in Staffordshire up to a period of five years.

 

Under the ProCure21+ framework, Kier will carry out the refurbishment, extension and new build projects at City General Hospital in Stoke and Stafford Hospital, ranging in value from £1m to £20m.

 

More specifically, the work involves building a new critical care unit, operating theatres and imaging facilities, as well as refurbishing patient wards and constructing new ones.

 

Kier is planning to appoint 70% of the labour, subcontractors and materials suppliers from the surrounding area and taken on 100 building apprenticeships for the duration of the project as well as 60 training programmes for local schools and colleges.

The programme of improvement works is expected to start on site in July 2014 with the completion of all services by 2018.

 

Kier finance director Haydn Mursell said: "We have extensive healthcare experience in the delivery of acute, mental health and community facilities and we are looking forward to working collaboratively with the Trust to deliver outstanding new healthcare facilities for Staffordshire. ProCure 21+, like other strategic frameworks, provides a pipeline of opportunities. Over the last 11 years, we have secured over 130 projects through ProCure 21 and ProCure 21+, worth over £1.1bn to the group.”

 

"The announcement brings the total new awards to Kier under frameworks to over £400m since 31 December 2013."
