Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Blackburn
My client operates in the Energy sector providing a comprehensive service including design and installation, operating decentralised energy generation and multi-utility network distribution schemes based on low carbon / zero carbon technologies. The company also provides tailored energy management schemes to measure, monitor and manage energy consumption.
Job Purpose:
To assist with the financial management of Contracts, in partnership with the Contracts Managers and/ or Project Managers. Responsibilities will include assisting the senior members of the commercial team on numerous projects with the procurement, sub-contractor accounts and variation accounts.
Key Accountabilities [main duties]:
Work in partnership with site management, commercially supporting sites as required, to develop a proactive site team. Ensuring that contractual obligations are identified and administered.
Vet contract documentation on receipt from Client to ensure compatibility with the Company’s Tender and subsequent negotiations
Produce Commercial Risk Register for each contract. Monitor risk and assist in implementation of agreed mitigation measures
Prepare and issue enquiries for Major Plant & Equipment and Sub-Contract packages. Vet quotations commercially and negotiate price and terms with vendors. Issue resultant Purchase Orders
Prepare and submit Applications for Payment and/or Invoices, obtain Payment Certificates and progress Client Payments in accordance with contractual provisions
Measure, submit and agree Variations, Loss & Expense and/or Compensation Events in accordance with contractual provisions to facilitate prompt agreement of Final Accounts
Monitor on-site record keeping. Prepare and issue Notices in accordance with contractual provisions
Prepare and submit monthly Cost Value Reconciliations and Cash/Spend Profiles. Attend Contract Review Meetings
Authorisation and coding of Suppliers’ and Sub-Contractors’ Invoices and submission to Finance for payment
Measure, certify and agree Sub-Contractors interim valuations and final accounts. Prepare and issue contractual notices to Sub-Contractors
Assist the Finance Department in securing payment of Invoices and/or Applications for Payment
Education/ Qualifications:
5 GCSE passes (grade A to C) including Maths and English (or equivalent).
Ideally be HNC/ degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Building Engineering Services (or equivalent)
Core/ Technical/ Safety Competencies :
Knowledge:
Have knowledge and working experience of Mechanical / Electrical services and/ or utilities
Be able to demonstrate commercial awareness/ acumen
Have proven experience in, problem solving, resolving difficult or disputed accounts to finality
Experience of Financial and Contract Management software packages is advantageous
