Job description

Our client is a leading engineering design consultancy, they are seeking someone to support their design teams delivering project in the Highways, Rail Infrastructure and Building sectors based in Luton.  

The successful post holder will be responsible for the delivery of technical outputs of projects or service areas to the meet the client’s brief. Reporting to the Principal Project Manager you will be responsible for managing the effective delivery of their design services across a range of varied and interesting projects to cost, programme and the required quality. This will be a challenging and exciting role which will be well suited to a highly motivated and organised team player.  

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:  

- Take ownership for the successful delivery of projects, working with Technical Leads to give leadership and directions to the teams, communicating effectively with all parties, planning and progress monitoring and, development of appropriate project controls.  

- Guiding and advising discipline Technical Leads and team Principals in optimising resource balancer and ensuring all deliverables and milestones are achieved.  

- Responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of the project team.  

- Manage project controls through their business and client systems.  

- Key interface with client team counterpart to determine client expectations, acting as a trusted advisor.  

- Review and advise on the contract scope and discuss with project delivery team.  

- Key point of contact, managing the interface between the client and business.  

- Responsible for the management of reporting and cost controls of your own projects.  

- Forecasting cost to completion, reporting to the client using both client processes and systems and business.  

- Leading risk in-line with internal and client expectations, identifying, managing and mitigating contract and project risks  

- Ensure the team are aware of the hours required to complete the deliverables required of them and manage internal changes using project management controls.  

- Carry out all Project Manager notifications associated with execution of the contract including: Change Controls, Quotations and Early Warnings.  

- Undertake scheduling of the project.  

- Ensure that quality procedures are being adhered.  

- Set up regular internal/ external progress meetings.  

Requirements

• Appropriate HNC, HND or degree in a relevant discipline  

• Member of a professional institution  

• APMP, Prince 2, NEC or other relevant Project Management qualification.  

• A minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in a formal Project Manager role  

• Comprehensive understanding of all relevant standards and Codes of Practice and Health and Safety Legislation within the construction industry  

• Experience of the Engineering Sector  

• Experience of managing design works  

 

Skills:  

• Minimum 6 years related experience  

• Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams  

• Experience with major transportation infrastructure including highways, bridges, and major projects  

• Strategic, conceptual, analytical thinking and decision-making skills  

• Adaptable and flexible including the ability to manage project deadlines  

• Experience with schedule software  

• Demonstrated willingness to learn  

• Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiastic team player  

• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills  

• Flexible with the ability to work on multiple projects of varied complexity with minimal supervision.  

• Commercial awareness
