The ME&I Estimation Manager will demonstrate good commercial and Technical aptitude in playing a pivotal role in delivering specialist projects (mainly within the UK Water Industry) with individual values ranging from £5K to £500K and must have a committed and flexible ‘can do’ attitude to undertaking the estimation of a variety of Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls (with some minor mechanical / civils) related schemes.
The role will entail reviewing tender enquiries, attending site surveys, and scoping meetings, compiling parts lists for submission to wholesalers and sub-contractors for pricing, coordinate sub-contractor submissions, creation and submission of quotations and tender that are fully compliant with client electrical and mechanical standards.
This role will require the ability to effectively liaise with internal staff (both senior and junior) and external clients / contractors in a polite, professional, and courteous manner.
Operating within a small project management team there will be a requirement to travel for site surveys, site visits, meetings, etc. and there may be a need for this role to work from remote site office locations or client offices depending on the scope of the project.
Typical (non-exhaustive) duties may include:
Set up and develop an Estimation department within ME&I
Create and then comply fully with company tendering procedures
Read and fully understand client specifications and drawings
Understand documentation required for formal submissions
Prepare material, labour, plant and subcontractor cost analysis
Prepare quotations to the required standard
Responsible for producing priced tenders that are accurate, detailed, and concise
Organise and partake in bid initiation, technical and commercial review meetings as needed.
Attend site visits and client meetings
Consider site safety, health, and environmental issues
Co-ordinate and liaise with suppliers, specialist sub-contractors and ‘in-house’ resources
Compile and collate documentation, schedules, and data sheets etc. for inclusion into final formal proposal submissions
Prepare Job material lists
Ensure detailed handover to assigned PM
Assist with training Estimating Assistant
Routine chasing of Outstanding quotations
Work to demanding timescales within a successful team
Assist others in selection of materials and sub-contractors when required to do so and propose alternative materials or methods
Reviewing supplied tender documentation including drawings, details, and specifications
Constructing a logical and consistent price/offer using spreadsheet models and success to failure ratio
Assist on the Monthly budget and reviews with senior management on Estimating pipeline
Managing the day-to-day activities of the ME&I estimating department inline with other department, System Integration, and Telemetry as required
