My client is a tier 1 main contractor and they work across the water & civils sectors across the UK & Ireland. Due to recent project wins they are looking to recruit Buyers ideally from a water / civils / construction background for their London operations.  

 

Purpose: To purchase in accordance with industry, company and client standards equipment and services incorporated in projects and contracts in which the company participates. Also to purchase other items of a non-contract specific nature as directed by the Commercial Manager.  

 

 

Principal Duties:  

 

-To receive material requisitions and vet them for authorisations and completeness.  

 

-Prepare enquiry documents. Issue enquiries to potential vendors and record enquiries on enquiry status report.  

 

-Receive bids from potential vendors.  

 

-Prepare and issue for signature Commercial Bid Analysis based on bids received.  

 

-When full authorisation has been received raise Purchase Order/Sub-Contract as appropriate.  

 

 

Position Description:  

 

-Circulate Purchase Order for signature/issue Sub-Contract via Commercial Manager to sub-contractor.  

 

-Issue Purchase Order to vendor and distribute order copies as necessary.  

 

-Prepare where necessary contract specific bidders list.  

 

-Communicate fully with other members of the department, contract team and other departments, vendors and sub-contractors on matters relating to the contract or project.  

 

-Communicate with Commercial Manager/Senior Buyer and Departmental QA Representative on matters of procedure and detail from CP's and WI's by which they are affected.  

 

-Participate in and contribute to vendor appraisals.  

 

-Attend and participate in such meetings as necessary called by Project Manager heading contract team.  

 

-Arrange and co-ordinate meetings with potential vendors at bid stage and attend as necessary post-contractual meetings where buyer's commercial input is required.  

 

-Develop vendor relationships, identify new potential vendors for appraisal and liaise with contract teams and other members of Purchasing Department in communicating relevant information regarding vendors and implications for our client  

 

-Maintain awareness of vendor market developments.  

 

-Any other duties as directed by Commercial Manager/Senior Buyer.  

 

-To comply with all Health and Safety responsibilities commensurate with the role, as outlined in the Health and Safety policy.  

 

-Any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned  

 

from time to time.  

 

 

Must have a background in water / construction  

 

Requirements  

Desirable Qualifications:  

 

-HNC/D in business studies (or equivalent) and/or demonstrable relevant experience.  

 

 

 

Performance Measures:  

 

-Accuracy and quality of own purchasing work.  

 

-Ability to meet contract time and cost objectives, within budget.  

 

-Ability to work within a team environment.  

 

-Integration and promotion of purchasing expertise within contract teams.  

 

-Contribution to departmental development, productivity and efficiency.  

 

-Ability to communicate and liaise with vendors and participate in their development.
