Bam Construction to embark on £20m Bridlington leisure centre

The scheme on Bridlington’s seafront incorporates a six-lane, 25 m swimming pool, a smaller learner pool, a freeform pool with water features, two water slides and a swimming spectator seating with a capacity of 150 people.

Upon completion the leisure centre will also include have a changing village, and a health suite with a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, showers and foot spa. Within the building there will be a café with access for both centre users and non-users.

Within the facility there will be a 70-station fitness studio, an exercise studio, a spinning studio and extra rooms for dance and yoga classes. The users of the leisure centre will have access to a six-court sports hall, two squash courts and a climbing wall.

The construction director for BAM Construction, John Phillips, commented on the scheme: “We’ll bring a local team to this project together with our reputation for quality and our considerate approach. It’s an exciting project – the leisure sector often has unique buildings that need an eye for quality and a collaborative, problem-solving culture like ours.

“We will also try to deliver economic benefits for the area, involving local firms as much as possible. It’s our second major leisure project in the region, with Huddersfield Sports Centre under construction and three projects in Hull.”

As one of the UK’s biggest contractors, BAM has been involved in many big schemes including the recently built Leeds Arena. It is the top construction company in the “Best Companies to Work For” list and achieved the best result of all the UK’s companies in the annual carbon reduction table.

Additionally, BAM has been awarded Contractor of the Year title at the Constructing Excellence awards for Yorkshire and Humber.
