United Utilities announced last year that the project, which is to be procured under the direct procurement for customers (DPC) approach, was a major water resilience scheme with estimated construction costs of over £750 million in AMP7 and AMP8.
Under the ECI contract, the smart infrastructure solutions company will provide future-shaping strategic consultancy services advising on areas such as preliminary designs, temporary land requirements for construction, land and environmental surveys and investigations to help United Utilities to increase the resilience of water supply in the Manchester area.
Costain will bring challenge, innovation and supply chain relationships to enhance the existing project team.
The contract, which is for an initial period of three years with the option to extend the agreement to a maximum of five years, has already commenced. The framework is expected to be worth up to £1 million over the duration of the contract.
This news follows Costain’s appointment as sole managed service provider by United Utilities earlier this year across its operations in the North West of England.
This was the first time the client outsourced its maintenance activity as it seeks to drive material efficiency and operational improvements in line with customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
Costain water sector director Gerard Shore said: “Following on from our appointment as sole maintenance provider earlier this year, we are now able to provide additional strategic consultancy services to United Utilities in support of their strategy and in line with customer expectations and regulatory requirements.”
Anglo Technical Recruitment has been successfully supplying contract and permanent staff to MWH Treatment for over the last 20 years and we look forward to continuing to support them on the Severn Trent’s AMP7 framework.
