Autumn Budget 2018

By far and away the biggest announcement impacting the UK’s flexible workforce in today’s Budget is the Government’s decision to roll out changes to IR35 in the private sector in April 2020 but only where services are provided to a medium or large business (definition yet to be published). The changes are likely to include a shift of the obligation to determine IR35 status from the contractor to the end hirer and an obligation on the fee payer (typically us the recruiter) to ensure the correct tax is deducted from payments to impacted PSCs.

The Government has delayed implementation by 12 months to allow you and us to adequately prepare. It is vital that this 17-month lead time is used to ensure that you and us do not experience any significant business impact.

We have been working with umbrella companies and advisers that we know well and are happy to recommend to you. One of them being Brookson One.

Since the public-sector changes in 2017 and in anticipation of this announcement, Brookson One have been working with us to help manage or prepare for our new obligations.

For more details, please find attached Brookson One blog summarising the announcements made in today’s Budget.
