Job description

Our client is a major design, engineering and project management consultancy who has been rapidly growing within various sectors. They are looking for an experienced, motivated Senior Security Engineer seeking to develop their career in a positive, stimulating and supported environment and join their team where talent is encouraged and growth opportunities unrivalled. They have an opening in their new modern office in Epsom or Warrington (Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Exeter would also be considered) which offers a fantastic collaborative environment for their multi-disciplinary teams  

 

Responsibilities:  

- Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.  

- Design and specification of electronic security systems, producing design documentation such as:  

- General arrangements indicating video surveillance, access control and intrusion detection system equipment positions.  

- Camera field of view drawings.  

- Door elevation details, indicating setting out of access control systems in compliance with statutory requirements.  

- Installation details.  

- System schematics.  

- Detailed equipment schedules indicating all devices and their key functional criteria, operational requirements etc.  

- Performance / technical specifications.  

- Carry out (and managing of others) the production of detailed calculations using industry standard software.  

- Collaborate with their BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit. - Engineers who can design straight to screen are encouraged.  

- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary design team.  

- Work in partnership with their Global Technology Centre to add value to building services projects where appropriate.  

- Representing their business at meetings with clients and contractors.  

- Site surveys, inspections and monitoring of site works.  

- Managing own workload, updating forward plan of workload regularly and working to time allocations.  

- Managing elements of project delivery and an understanding of budget costings.  

- Reviewing progress, including reporting any anomalies and changes of scope to the project lead.  

- Technical report writing.  

- Maintaining complete records and archives to company standards and adherence to all quality, environmental & governance processes.  

- Assisting with the mentoring and development of junior staff.  

- Keep up to date with latest technology developments.  

- Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.  

- Helping to develop internal technical standards, documentation, and specifications.  

- To assist the wider team based on project workloads, including across the ICT discipline where required.

Requirements

- Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification in a Security, Electronic Engineering, or ICT related discipline.  

- Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or be working towards Chartership.  

- Strong project experience of designing enterprise level electronic access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems.  

- Understanding of systems integration and security management systems.  

- Good understanding of IP data networks and the associated physical infrastructure.  

- Experience of digital engineering technologies / Building Information Management (BIM), the ability to use key software packages such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD would be desirable.  

- Experience of working in a design consultancy and/or experience of working within a contractor design environment is essential.  

- Detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards.  

- Able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative, and operate in a pro-active way.  

- Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clients is essential.  

- Comfortable working within time and cost budgets as agreed at project briefing meetings.  

- Undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties as required by the management team from time to time, to maintain flexibility in the organisation.  

- Experience of one or some of their active sectors would be advantageous.
