DESCRIPTION:

The Database Administrator will be expected to manage multiple changes of backend IT systems, engagement with various parties including third-party application providers, subject matter experts, business users and testers. The project stands within a wider Datacentre programme with a designated Project Manager to report to.

Key Responsibility Areas

• System change and migration

• Infrastructure relocation

• Recording the current mode of operation of systems

• Creating system migration proposals with internal SME assistance and Software Supplier input

• Supplier relationship management

• Create System and UAT plans

• Liaising with system owners and users to agree system downtimes and testing

• Update system catalogue information with details of new configuration

• Risk and Issue management, recording dependencies and system links

• Oversee testing process and validation

• Create proposals and provide progress updates to direct report

• Knowledge of Policing systems

Minimum Requirements

• Oracle database server administration (versions 8-11), Oracle web application server administration (version 10), Windows Server, Red Hat 2.6, Solaris 8

• Experience administering high-availability solutions, disaster recovery and diagnostics

• Must have knowledge of VMware virtualisation

• System migration experience preferably in Policing services

• Experience working with various parties including third-party application providers, subject matter experts, business users and testers.

• Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering service migration solutions on time and on budget

• An ability to document solution components in a timely manner while ensuring acceptable level of detail, data integrity, and accountability

• In depth Knowledge and hands-on experience of migration methods for critical solutions and capacity planning

• Must have knowledge and experience of service migration project lifecycle and methodologies as well as the tools used for migrations.

• The ability to Identify and quantifying technical risk and advice on strategies to mitigate them

• Good understanding of licensing models, licence footprints, license harvesting and re-use

• Demonstrable technical consulting experience in the IT industry

• Flexibility around working locations (Manchester area) and multiple sites, working hours and weekend commitments

Preferred Requirements

• Candidates should have a good breadth of IT knowledge gained from experience in significant roles.

• An ability to advise and interact with all levels of client management, users, system SMEs and wider project team

• Proven history of creating detailed system documentation

• Full UK driving licence
