Job description

Our client is seeking a skilled IT Infrastructure Specialist to support their renewable energy projects on a contract basis, working remotely OUTSIDE IR35.

In this role, you'll be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the IT infrastructure that powers renewable energy operations, including solar, wind, and battery storage systems. You'll ensure that their IT systems are secure, scalable, and well-integrated into the systems that drive energy production and distribution, playing a crucial part in advancing their renewable energy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage IT infrastructure for renewable energy systems, including cloud-based solutions, on-premise servers, networks, and storage systems.

- Ensure that network performance, security, and scalability meet the needs of both local and remote renewable energy assets.

- Maintain and troubleshoot servers, network equipment, and software critical for energy monitoring, control systems (like SCADA), and operational performance.

- Implement and enforce robust data security practices, including encryption, backup, and disaster recovery protocols, for renewable energy systems.

- Work closely with engineers and operations teams to integrate IT solutions with energy management systems (EMS) and other renewable energy technologies.

- Oversee the integration of cloud services for real-time data collection from renewable energy assets, ensuring accurate data processing and reporting.

- Manage vendor relationships for IT infrastructure services and solutions, ensuring that projects stay on track with budgets and timelines.

- Collaborate with the compliance team to make sure that the IT infrastructure meets all relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for energy systems.

- Support the development of automation tools and IT solutions to enhance system optimization and energy efficiency across renewable energy projects.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Certifications (such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are a plus.

- 3+ years of experience managing IT infrastructure, preferably within the renewable energy or related industries.

- Experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS.

- Strong knowledge of networking protocols, VPNs, firewalls, and network security practices. Familiarity with SCADA systems and IoT technologies used in the energy sector is a plus.

- Proficiency with virtualization technologies and energy management systems (EMS).

- Hands-on experience with data storage solutions, including backup and disaster recovery strategies.

- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, especially in a complex technical environment.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.

- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects while maintaining a focus on quality and attention to detail.

- Experience working with renewable energy technologies, such as solar, wind, and battery storage.

- Familiarity with regulatory standards and best practices for IT in the energy sector.

- Experience with energy monitoring and control systems (SCADA, EMS).
