ITS A PART TIME ROLE WITH AVERAGING AROUND 2 DAYS PER WEEK

DESCRIPTION:

This is a part time contract for 6 months, averaging around 2 days a week perhaps x3 can be flexible.

The DfT work flexibly, but some of that time will need to be based in our offices in Victoria, London. The role would suit someone with the following skills and experience:

The role entails working alongside transport modellers and economists to improve the efficiency, transparency and usability of this module.

The potential part-time contract that we would want to let would be for someone who has

C++ - some of the model written in this so need strong experience

Looking at the current coding and cleaning it up and making changes to it

Doesn’t have to be highly technical - but a solid C++ bod

+ Extensive C++ programming experience in a professional environment for bespoke applications.

+ Experience in writing, editing and maintaining software for mathematical and analytical modelling

+ Significant experience of working with the Microsoft .NET C++ and Visual Studio platforms

+ Interfacing C++ applications with Excel

+ Team-working and the ability to share and impart complex technical C++ knowledge

The role sits in the Aviation Appraisal and Modeling

team working on the National Aviation Passenger Allocation Model (NAPAM).

The central part of this model is a bespoke module written using Microsoft .NET C++ environment with Excel used to input/output data.

The role entails working alongside transport modellers and economists to improve the efficiency, transparency and usability of this module.

The potential part-time contract that we would want to let would be for someone who has:

+ Extensive C++ programming experience in a professional environment for bespoke applications.

+ Experience in writing, editing and maintaining software for mathematical and analytical modelling

+ Significant experience of working with the Microsoft .NET C++ and Visual Studio platforms

We are looking for an experienced programmer with significant C++ experience to work alongside transport modellers and economists in the Aviation Modelling and Appraisal team on the ongoing development of the National Air Passenger Allocation Model (NAPAM). This role is part time for a fixed period to deliver a specific project.

NAPAM is a long established model created and operated in-house by DfT to forecast passenger and aircraft numbers at UK airports. This model has been used to shape aviation policy and feed into key government decisions including assessments of airport capacity in the South East.

You will be working closely with our transport modellers who have some experience of the model’s C++ code, to develop technical solutions and expertise working in a Microsoft.Net C++environment. You will take into account architectural and other technical requirements to improve efficiency, transparency and usability. You will be maintaining, modernising, improving and commenting existing code and developing new applications within the program. This will include the input/output of data from C++ to MS Excel to agreed specifications.

You will be involved in specifying and designing the application work-package, including formally documenting proposals with resource and timescale estimates for approval.

Periods of absence for anything up to 3-4 weeks will be considered.

We would expect the candidate might work on another project during this time and do not expect exclusivity.

You will be required to document all design, development and testing work in line with agreed industry and site standards.
