Our Government client is currently recruiting for a Senior Communications Officer, on a 12 month contract paying £230 p/d inside IR35 umb.

Role: Senior Communications Officer

Contract Length:12 months

Location: WFH mostly but need to be commutable to Leeds area as they will likely be asked to come to the office in Leeds 1 or 2 times a month (Paid for by the candidate)

IR35: In scope

Pay Rate to Candidate: 230pd

Security Clearance: BPSS/DBS

The Role:

Working within the Communications Network you will develop and coordinate impactful, multi-channel communications plans to support the clients services.

The post holder will:

• have a good understanding, knowledge and skill in a range of communications disciplines from the following: media relations, campaigns, reputation, risk and change management, stakeholder engagement, internal communications, project management and public affairs.

• develop and implement communications objectives and priorities delivering creative and timely outputs/ outcomes

• deliver compelling, integrated, digital content - to support reactive handling and proactive communications

• skilled in activity management and communications planning, contribute to the forward-planning grid for all channels

• develop, deliver and commission (from central communications teams) a broad range of activities across the communications mix

• build relationships and collaborate with programme teams and directorates so that all activity supports the delivery of Digital objectives

• consider communications and reputation implications in activity planning

• use insight and audience research to develop communications and campaigns activities and evaluate outcomes and assess activity to inform future activities

• build stakeholder support, partnerships and advocacy to listen effectively, share content and amplify messages to enhance understanding, support and reputation

• develop a good understanding of the business’ strategic goals, performance and audiences, and translate that knowledge into clear and compelling communications

• identify potential issues that could impact us and work to minimise impact.

• deliver communication initiatives, support change programmes and provide issue and crisis management support

• contribute to the team’s administration, planning, evaluation and reporting

• Diplomacy and relationship management skills (internal colleagues/clients and external suppliers)

• Ability to work with and influence senior leaders, managers and staff at all levels

• Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate activity across a range of areas and gather analytics

• An appreciation of the need for confidentiality of information.

• Provide and receive complex sensitive information

Experience and Knowledge:

You will have a specialised knowledge of communications and engagement grounded in theory and practical experience. You will be able to demonstrate:

• Your experience of developing communication plans to support business objectives, and taking ownership of their delivery from start to finish

• Your experience of working with other communications and marketing practitioners in a multi-channel environment, with exposure to and involvement in the creation of campaigns

• Management of communication messaging within a complex and sensitive environment

• Excellent written and verbal skills: able to provide clear communication materials for internal and external channels, adapting your style and tone for different audiences

• Your ability to work closely with senior leaders to provide professional communications advice and guidance

• The general principles of outstanding communications practice. Qualifications and Training


• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

• Professional qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience of internal communications or change management communication

• Active membership of the Institute of Internal Communications or Chartered Institute of Public Relations (Inside) or similar relevant professional body

• Evidence of ongoing professional development in internal or change communications
