Job description
This contract with our central government client is for a Facility Engineer for 18 months. The role is located in Aldermaston and requires 3 days per week onsite.

• A lot of shortfall fixes
• A ‘doer’
• Reviews of safety
• Risk management
• Hazard IDs
• Mitigate
• Justification
• Fixes
• Updates to maintenance
• Deep dive into what is happening
• Documentation
• Initial risk assessments
• Progress meetings
• Updates
• Shortfall actions
• Reviewing shortfalls
• Facility visits (may occasionally include Burghfield)
• Follow due process
Key part of role:
• Safety Cases
o Documents covering risk assessment for a facility. Figure out what to do to make it better.
o Nuclear background may have something similar; safety reviews, hazardous reviews
Requirements
• DV (Developed Vetting)
• HNC with suitable additional experience to Incorporated Engineer equivalent level.
• Membership of an engineering institution.
• A ‘doer’ rather than a manager
• Understand what a safety case is.
o Safety case is a key phrase. Equivalents from other companies may be safety reviews, risk management on hazardous situations.
o Good screening question “What’s your safety case experience”.
• Engineering background
• Nuclear background/experience highly desirable
• RAF/Defence background may provide transferable skills.
• Technical rather than management bias
• Maintenance experience
• Shortfall fixes/breakdown assessments
• On call breakdown checks
• Substantiation
• Compliance assessments
• there is no preference regarding their field of engineering. Mechanical, electrical, C&I, Civil, all ok, they are looking across all fields, as long as there is an engineering background.
