This contract with our central government client is for an Economist for 6 months. You should live within an hours commute of London, Manchester, Bristol as is a Hybrid role with 2 days in the office required.  

 

Job Description:  

 

As the Lead Economist your role will be to work in a collaborative way across the company and other government departments to deliver robust and sound economic modelling and benefits cases for digital transformation projects which deliver outcomes across many government departments.  

 

You will be the economic focal point for our client, in particular as the key advisor for the Deputy Director for Finance and Business services as well as the wider senior leadership on all economic, benefits and business case matters.  

 

This role will require strong leadership skills to bring together a number of teams to optimise monitoring and evaluation, built on a strong experience of developing business cases in line with the government green book guidelines and economic modelling.  

 

Main responsibilities:  

● Management and leadership of a small team of economists and analysts.  

● Finalise the development of the Economic Case for the GOV.UK One Login full business case, for submission to HM Treasury in September  

● Oversee and lead the continuous improvement of benefit tracking, monitoring and evaluation for wider Government products, such as GOV.UK Website, GOV.UK Notify, and GOV.UK Pay  

● Act as a focal point for any other economic analysis and advice across  

● Present your work to leadership and where necessary to the wider government departments;  

● Build and maintain relationships with our client and other contacts for the purpose of negotiating business cases and their approvals;

Requirements

For this role it is essential that you have:  

● An economics degree to at minimum undergraduate level  

● Strong experience working as an economist, including developing benefits models, and implementing processes for benefit realisation, monitoring and evaluation  

● Experience of developing high value economic business cases; understanding and application of the Green Book techniques applied in Impact Assessments or Business Cases;  

● experience of managing a team of economists and/or analysts, or leading an economic function;  

● experience of influencing and establishing strong working relationships with senior stakeholders and attending senior management boards;  

● experience of external stakeholder management across multiple organisations
