Job description
Our client, a distinguished consultancy, is currently seeking Senior Nuclear Safety Engineers with strong technical and communication skills, who thrive in solving the most complex nuclear and defence safety problems and enjoy working in multidisciplinary project teams. Whilst the office base will be in Bristol, Manchester, Aldershot, Silchester or Glasgow, flexibility in work location is a must-from time to time, clients do call on the team to deliver work from their sites.
Your Purpose:
You will help the client to deliver a range of exciting major defence related programmes across the UK. This includes the design and construction of new infrastructure, life extensions and upgrades, maintaining ongoing operations, and decommissioning. You will be involved with all aspects of safety case support, including:
- Shaping the nuclear safety case strategy.
- Working closely with project partners to ensure a safety informed design.
- Engaging with stakeholders to facilitate ‘Right First Time’ delivery.
- Undertaking safety assessments and safety analysis.
- Producing safety reports and other technical documents.
Responsibilities:
The role will entail providing safety case support throughout the design life of a facility and/or operation. You will support in managing nuclear safety and ensuring compliance with Licence Conditions and/or Authorisation Condition. You will typically provide technical leadership for:
- Hazard/Fault Identification Studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, etc).
- Qualitative and Quantitative Hazard Analysis Assessments.
- Radiological Hazard Assessments.
- Safety Case Report production (e.g., PSR, PCSR, etc).
- ALARP Assessments.
- Support to Engineering Substantiation activities.
- Liaison with regulatory organisations (e.g., ONR, DNSR).
- Development and review of Safety Management Arrangements.
- Managing/Leading Safety Case activities and teams.
As a Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will also be expected to:
- Mentor others in a technical capacity.
- Assist in the production of bids and proposals to aid business growth.
- Implement and contribute to safety initiatives.
- Build relationships and networks within the client and their partners.

In addition to having excellent communication, presentation and problem-solving skills you will also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Honours Degree (or equivalent) in physics, mechanical engineering, or closely related discipline (2:1 minimum).
- Chartered (or working towards Chartership status).
- Technical practitioner in the Nuclear/Defence domains, able to demonstrate good engineering judgement with experience in applying fundamental engineering principles.
- Excellent written skills, and an eye for detail that means you can produce and review high-quality technical reports.
- Demonstrable evidence of being a leader of technical teams and development of more junior staff.
- Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
- Awareness of their own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver.
- Must be eligible to obtain an appropriate level of Security Clearance.
