Technical Director/Discipline Lead - Foundations and Earth Retaining Structures

This role is for one of the biggest civil services consultancies, they are currently looking for an experienced Technical Director/Discipline Lead - Foundations and Earth Retaining Structures to join their growing team on a permanent basis to support the delivery of numerous projects all across the UK and internationally. This role is located in Epsom, London, Bristol, Birmingham, Warrington, Leeds, or Glasgow.  

Job Description:  

Our Client is looking to appoint a dynamic Technical Director, at the forefront of their profession to become their Discipline Lead for Foundations and Earth Retaining Structures. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of project delivery, inspirational technical leadership and driving innovation to shape solutions to the increasingly complex challenges faced by their clients and society. As a leading member of the Ground Engineering & Tunnelling practice you will hold key technical roles on major projects, collaborate with Clients to understand and solve their problems, help lead the continuous shaping and development of their capability globally, and be an aspirational role model for their technical staff.  

The Discipline Lead is a key role within their overall Technical Networks within both the Ground Engineering and Tunnelling practice and wider business. This network is tasked with providing Technical and Delivery Excellence across business activities and to be seen as a ‘centre of excellence’ within the industry. You will be encouraged and expected to develop a national and international profile including publishing papers, providing thought leadership and deliver presentations at key conference as well as seeking external awards to raise the profile of the business.

- Extensive geotechnical expertise including being an industry leader in the design and construction of retaining structures, deep basements and foundations.  

- Proven experience of successful project delivery and establishment of trusted client relationships – being the ‘go to’ expert.  

- An influential and aspirational technical leader with a passion for staff development, sharing knowledge, and collaborative innovation.  

- A well-esteemed industry profile built on a track record of thought leadership through public speaking, trade press articles, publications, and well-developed academic networks.  

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a talent for making the complex simple and confidently liaising with clients and wider stakeholders.  

- Excellent commercial track record in delivering successful projects.  

Proven business development skills in a technically led sales capacity.  

- A desire for combining core engineering skills with digital innovation to drive efficiency and automation.  

- Strong academic qualifications with a relevant degree and preferably an MSc or PhD in a relevant subject.  

- Willingness to travel on short-term UK or overseas assignments.  

- Chartered status.  

- A valid UK driving licence.
