Our client is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering, project management and building services consultancies. They are currently looking for a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer with experience in Building Physics to join their London Building Design Practice on a permanent basis.
This role will encompass a multi-sector experience, but expertise from working within the Rail, Residential, Education, Commercial sectors would be a benefit.
The opportunity will require candidates to be client-facing as well as being involved in the day-to-day design and thermal analysis of projects.
The role requires a blend/mix of Mechanical Building Services & Building Physics skills.
The office is based in London but our client supports flexible working.
Main responsibilities:
To undertake engineering services design and consultancy work under the direction of the line manager or project leader.
To undertake calculations, production of drawings, specifications and reports, site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison, liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing and any other relevant duty required to comply with the project brief.
Other responsibilities will include:
Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
Design and specification of all Mechanical Building Services systems - heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, etc.
Carry out the production of detailed calculations using industry standard digital tools inc. Excel, IES, Hevacomp, in-house developed tools, etc.
Experience of coordinating analysis work with the wider design team to enable accurate representation of the proposed (or actual) physical space to be modelled – coupled with an ability to communicate what the impacts key design decisions by other disciplines will have on the thermal performance of the space.
Ability to produce technical reports that discuss the analysis processes undertaken, inputs/ outputs, conclusions, impact on other disciplines (primarily Building Services & Architecture), etc.
Preparing technical specifications using NBS.
Preparing drawings for drafting by the BIM team, a working understanding / use of Autodesk (& Revit).
Note- experience of Microstation & AECOsim is beneficial.
Site surveys, inspections, and monitor site works.
Report & technical note writing.
Managing elements of project delivery and an understanding of budget costings.
Reviewing progress, inc. reporting any anomalies and changes of scope to the line manager.
Help & assist with technical development of junior staff.
