Our client is a well-established building services consultancy who has a requirement for an experienced Structural Engineer to join their growing team on a permanent basis.  

 

You will be a Structural Engineer with a proven track record of successful delivery of design projects from concept to completion. Credibility, competence and technical excellence are a given and the role requires close working with client's internal and external clients and industry stakeholders. This role offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience, and problem-solving skills on an unique and technically challenging project.  

 

This role will focus on working with DEFENCE and NUCLEAR clients and it might require obtaining a government security clearance.  

 

 

Responsibilities:  

 

Ensure the provision of efficient high-quality structural engineering design.  

Be the first point of contact for clients, contractors, design team and third parties.  

Provide Nuclear Safety Case updates on a Class 1 Nuclear New Build project through to its final approval for commissioning and pre-handover.  

Author design substantiation reports.  

Present outputs to clients and stakeholders.  

Close out the client technical Authority and stakeholder comments.  

Reviewing design work carried out by members of the team and external third parties.  

Attending multi-disciplinary design team meetings.  

Ability to inspect works carried out on site and monitor quality and compliance with design drawings.  

Managing the delivery of documents to meet regulatory dates.

Requirements

Chartered, or nearly Chartered, Structural Engineer (MIStructE or MICE).  

Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil/Structural Engineering.  

Excellent communication and presentation skills that can support clients' relationships.  

Ability to work both individually and as part of a multi-discipline team.  

Ability to lead a design team and supervise more junior staff.  

Be a technically excellent engineer, with established skills and delivery capability.  

The ability to develop scopes of work and delivery programmes.  

The ability to make decisions, act on your own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.  

Experience in the design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes.  

Ability to use structural analysis software (Robot, Fastrak, Tekla or similar). Revit and Navisworks experience is also desirable.  

Experience and understanding of ONR regulatory procedures are a benefit.
